Psalm 104:27 "These all wait for You, that You may give them their food in due season."

Text: Exodus 25 : 23-30

OF GREAT SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANCE

God Himself determined the artifacts that were to be used in the Tabernacle. Every item held great symbolic significance. The idea of a Tabernacle was mooted by God to represent a great truth! He would be among His people! The ark of the Testimony, complete with the Mercy Seat represented another vital truth – God was a wonderfully merciful God!

ANOTHER VITAL ARTIFACT

The Lord had been looking after all the physical needs of Israel, in the most marvelous way! Daily He provided manna. Fresh water was available all the time! He even provided quails! Sadly, Israel had taken this provision for granted. There was too much unnecessary complaining. God wanted Israel to remember that He was their Great Provider! A golden Showbread Table would go a long way to impress upon the children of Israel that He has and that He would always provide.

“You shall also make a table of acacia wood;
two cubit shall be its length, a cubit its width,
and a cubit and a half its height. And you shall overlay it
with pure gold, and make a molding of gold all around.”
EXODUS 25:23-24

ANOTHER PORTABLE PIECE

As Israel journeyed towards the Promised Land, understandably, the Tabernacle and all its artifacts must be portable. Hence the following description:-

“You shall make for it a frame of a handbreadth all around,
and you shall make a gold molding for the frame all around.
And you shall make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings
on the four corners that are at its four legs. The rings shall be
close to the frame, as holders for the poles to bear the table.
And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them
with gold, that the table may be carried with them.”
EXODUS 25:25-28

OTHER UTENSILS RELATED TO THE MAKING OF SHOWBREAD

Even the articles for the making of showbread were mentioned! Did the making of all these utensil seem tedious? Not at all, for they represented God’s gracious provision! And that surely cannot be deemed tedious!

“You shall make its dishes, its pans, its pitchers,
and its bowls for pouring. You shall make them of pure gold;
And you shall set the showbread on the table before Me always.”
EXODUS 25:29-30

The use of gold well-symbolised great appreciation for God’s glorious provision.
