"Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven." Psalm 119:89

Text: Exodus 24 : 3

COMMUNICATING GOD’S WORD

Moses had learned many deep lessons from God up in Mt. Sinai. He took a breather when God sent him down with the invitation for Aaron , his two sons and the seventy elders to come up with him the next time he made his way up Mount Sinai.

The first thing Moses did was to communicate what God had spoken to him! One can only imagine the sense of joy and power he must have felt as he shared about what he had learned!

“So Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD
and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice
and said, ‘All the words which the LORD has said, we will do.'”
EXODUS 24:3

1. Faithful communication of God’s word

Moses was a great example of what it means to receive the word of the Lord and to faithfully proclaim it. All future prophets and priests would follow this great example. The LORD confirmed and emphasized this in a word given to Jeremiah the prophet centuries later.

“For who has stood in the counsel of the LORD,
And has perceived and heard his word?
Who has marked His word and heard it?

‘The prophet…who has My word, let him speak My word
faithfully.
What is the chaff to the wheat?’ says the LORD.”
JEREMIAH 23:18, 28

Moses had stood in the counsel of the Lord! He had heard it, and now he must faithfully teach the children of Israel all that he had heard from God!

2. Appropriate Response

As the children of Israel heard the glorious words spoken by Moses, their hearts were deeply stirred. With one voice, they cried out, “All the words which the LORD had said, we will do.”

a) “All the words”
That was a most appropriate response indeed! Israel was willing to embrace “ALL” that God had said!
b) “We will do”
The children of Israel recognized that God’s words were meant to be obeyed. That meant one thing in particular – God’s commandments must and will be kept! With a great sense of euphoria, for these commandments were of Divine rather than secular source, Israel made a correct response! They will obey God fully!
