Day 146

"Listen to Me, you who know righteousness; You people in whose heart is My law..." Isaiah 51:7

Text: Exodus 19 : 9-11

A WONDERFUL HONOURING OF A FAITHFUL SERVANT

As Moses communed with God in Mount Sinai, he heard another astounding word. God well and truly honoured Moses!

“And the LORD said to Moses, ‘Behold, I come to you
in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you,
and believe you forever.'”
EXODUS 19:9

1. “Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud”

As Moses ascended Mount Sinai, a thick cloud would envelope the mountain! That was a very visible sign indicating that the Lord was indeed speaking to Moses!

2. “That the people may hear when I speak with you”

God wanted the children of Israel to know that Moses was a specially anointed servant of His! Who else could speak of God coming down in a thick cloud whenever a mere human being sought to commune with Him? God would make it clear to the children of Israel, that all Moses proclaimed and taught came from Him!

3. “And believe you forever”

What a wonderful and thoughtful God! He understood what Moses had to put up with at times! He knew that though there may be times when the people would listen to him, there were also times when they would resist and reject Moses! How may He aid the ministry of His servant? He would come and make His Presence known and felt. Perhaps this would help the children of God believe in Moses when he spoke to them!

AN ASTOUNDING OFFER

Then God went up a step further! He would speak to the children of Israel directly! How would that sound?

“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Go to the people
and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them
wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day.
For on the third day the LORD will come down upon Mount Sinai
in the sight of all the people.'”
EXODUS 19:10-11

1. “On the third day the LORD will come down upon Mount Sinai”

A visit from the Lord was no ordinary or common event! What a thrilling thought that was! But how should the people prepare themselves for this visit from the Lord?

2. “Consecrate them today and tomorrow”

The children of Israel had seen the power of God displayed in Egypt! They had seen how He defeated the Egyptians at the Red Sea! They had also seen how wonderfully He had been providing every day! But a personal visit? Consecration was necessary!
