Ephesians

Day 362

"But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychichus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you."

Text: Ephesians 6:21

A GOOD BAND OF SERVANTS OF GOD

Paul was truly an outstanding servant of God. His blessing was that he had a wonderful team who were like him in so many ways. We have Tychichus given honourable mention in this text.

A QUICK PROFILE OF TYCHICHUS

Paul also mentioned Tychichus in his epistle to the Colossians. Let us take time to read the following words of commendation made concerning this dear man of God.

Tychichus, a beloved brother, faithful minister,
and fellow servant in the Lord, will tell you all the news
about me. I am sending him to you for this very purpose,
that he may know your circumstances and comfort your hearts,
with Onesimus, a faithful beloved brother, who is one of you.
COLOSSIANS 4:7-9

The following are truly heart-warming comments!

1. A beloved brother

a) A brother

A person becomes “a brother” because of a common faith in the Lord Jesus.

b) A beloved brother

This does not come about naturally. Tychichus endeared himself to the apostle Paul, because of the kind of brother he became.

2. Faithful minister

a) Minister (“diakonos”)

This word describes both the heart and the kind of ministry Tychichus engaged himself in. He was prepared to serve at the humblest level, even as one who merely serves at tables.

b) Faithful

In that he served so diligently, he was called “faithful”.

3. A fellow-servant (“sundoulos”)

Paul always saw himself as a bond-slave to the Lord Jesus. He now described Tychichus as “a fellow-servant”. Tychichus was prepared to travel to meet the Ephesians, and the Colossians, and all for the purpose of updating people concerning Paul’s life and ministry! Not many would humble themselves to do simple tasks like that.
