Day 329

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

Text: Ephesians 6:12

EXAMPLES OF HOW SATAN WAGES WAR I

We do have examples recorded in the Scriptures concerning how Satan wages war against God’s servants. Satan’s attacks can be subtle but very effective.

1. Satan’s attack of king David

Let us ponder the words of the following text carefully.

Now Satan stood up against Israel,
and moved David to number Israel.
1 CHRONICLES 21:1

David’s general pleaded with the king not to number the people.

And Joab answered, ‘May the LORD
make His people a hundred times more than they are.
But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants?
Why then does my lord require this thing?
Why should he be a cause of guilt in Israel.
1 CHRONICLES 21:3

How was the numbering of the people an attack on David? Let us ponder these sobering thoughts:-

a) He played on the ego of David.
b) He wanted David to be filled with personal glory.
c) He wanted David to disobey God.
d) He worked on David’s weakness of his military pride.

2. The punishment that God had to mete out against David

Satan got David into trouble. As long as he can make someone to stumble he has gained his objective.

And God was displeased with this thing;
therefore He struck Israel.
1 CHRONICLES 21:7

3. The way to get out of Satan’s snare

David knew that he had to return to God, confess his sins and make atonement. This was the only way to get out of Satan’s snare.

So David said to God, ‘I have sinned greatly,
because I have done this thing; but now, I pray,
take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have
done foolishly.
1 CHRONICLES 21:8
