Ephesians
Day
Day 319

"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might."

Text: Ephesians 6:10

A PRAYER FOR STRENGTH

In Paul’s second prayer for the Ephesians, he specifically asked for strength. Let us recall this petition he made.

That He would grant you,
according to the riches of His glory,
to be strengthened with might through His Spirit
in the inner man.
EPHESIANS 3:16

1. “To be strengthened with might” (“krataiothenai”)

a) Lexically

This word means “to be made strong”.

b) Grammatically

This word was written in the passive voice. This means that this special source of strength will have to be found outside ourselves. The Lord Himself will have to give us this strength! We are but recipients of this power.

2. “Through His Spirit”

a) The means is clearly identified.
b) The imbuing of strength will come from the Holy Spirit Himself.

3. “In the inner man”

a) This emphasizes “internal strength”.
b) Physical strength is not in view here.

BE STRONG IN THE LORD

The need to “be strong” is obviously emphasized in this context. Any battle with the evil one will require tremendous spiritual, inner-man strength. And where may this great source of strength be found? Paul’s ubiquitous phrase, “in the Lord” is once again employed. Three thoughts may be highlighted:-

1. Strength is located in the Lord and not in us.

2. Strength must be sought and obtained from the Lord for all battles.

3. Strength is available to all who walk closely with the Lord.
