Day 219

"But speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the Head- Christ."

Text: Ephesians 4:15

AVOIDING WRONG WAYS OF EQUIPPING THE SAINTS

It is of utmost importance that all believers be instructed fully and firmly in the faith. However, it is important that one does not get carried away. Some of the dangers of being carried away include the following:-

1. The use of coercion on all believers to know the Christian faith.

2. The use of fear to force believers to understand their faith.

3. The use of a rigid regime to instruct believers.

THE RECOMMENDED APPROACH

No matter how grave the danger may be, great understanding and love must always be in the heart of the teacher of God’s word.

1. Focus on “the truth”

The truth must be taught with great confidence. The teacher must teach out of a heart of deep conviction.

2. Teaching out of a heart of love

a) There must be a love for the truth being taught.
b) There must also be a love for the ones learning the deep truths of the Scripture.
c) The language medium must be marked by great love.

3. Understanding the nature of growth

a) It takes time to grow anything… including faith.
b) Growth in the Christian faith includes many things (Cf. 1 Timothy 4:15 covered under the phrase “all things”)

4. Never lose focus of the Lord Jesus Christ- the Head of the Church

a) It seems so easy to become mired in activities.
b) One must ever seek to be conscious of the Lord Jesus Christ… as the Living Head.
c) One must remember that we are speaking of living spiritual realities.
