Day 200

"One Lord, one faith, one baptism."

Text: Ephesians 4:5

REFERENCE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

We identify the word “Lord” as a reference to none other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Paul has always carefully mentioned the different roles that each Person in the Divine Godhead played. In this context, this reference must naturally refer to the Lord Jesus Christ. Unity in the Church is guarded that much better when we dwell on the Lordship of our Saviour Jesus Christ and all that He has done for us.

ONE LORD (“kurios”)

The roles of the Lord Jesus Christ are many. Let us highlight some of those breathtakingly glorious roles:-

1. He is the Person who brought about all our blessings from God

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the
heavenly places in Christ.
EPHESIANS 1:3

2. He is our glorious Redeemer

In Him we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
EPHESIANS 1:7

3. He is the Head of the Church

And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him
to be head over all things to the Church, which is His body,
the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
EPHESIANS 1:22-23

4. He is the Person who reconciled Jew and Gentile into one body

And that He might reconcile them both to God
in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death
the enmity.
EPHESIANS 2:16

5. He is the chief cornerstone of the Church

Having been built on the foundation of the apostles
and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.
EPHESIANS 2:20

PREEMINENCE OF CHRIST

In another epistle that Paul wrote, (often called the twin epistle) the apostle declared firmly that Jesus as Lord must always have preeminence.

And He is the Head of the body, the Church,
who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in all things He may have the preeminence.
COLOSSIANS 1:18
