"I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called."

Text: Ephesians 4:1

GOD’S CALLING

The first three chapters of Ephesians saw Paul devote time to explaining much about God’s calling. Let us take time to review this doctrine.

1. Recalling the past (Some highlights)

a) “Dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1)
b) “Walked according to the course of this world” (Ephesians 2:2)
c) “According to the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2)
d) “By nature the children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3)
e) “Aliens… and strangers…” (Ephesians 2:12)

2. The Calling of God (Some highlights)
(Individual salvation)

a) “Made alive together with Christ” (Ephesians 2:5)
b) “Raised… made to sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6)
c) “By grace you have been saved…’ (Ephesians 2:8)
d) “We are His workmanship…” (Ephesians 2:10)
e) “Reconciled… to God… through the cross…” (Ephesians 2:16)

3. The Calling of God (Some highlights)
(With reference to the Church)

a) “Fellow citizens… members of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19)
b) “Being fitted together, grows into a holy temple” (Ephesians 2:22)
c) “Fellow heirs… partakers of His promise” (Ephesians 2:6)

We have a high and holy calling from God indeed! Paul was merely stating the obvious when he appealed to all believers “to walk worthy of the calling”.
