"How that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already…)"

Text: Ephesians 3:3

UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATING THE PROCESS OF REVELATION

How may we understand the actual process of revelation? We actually have two very good examples that would provide an excellent idea of how God would reveal His thoughts and His will to His servants. We may surmise that Paul received his revelation in a similar way.

1. God’s revelation to Ezekiel

God not only raised Ezekiel to be His servant, He also gave him the messages to proclaim as well.

“You shall speak My words…”
EZEKIEL 2:7

“Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me;
and behold, a scroll of a book was in it.
Then He spread it before me; and there was writing
on the inside and on the outside, and written on it
were lamentations and mourning and woe.”
EZEKIEL 2:9-10

“Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll,
and go, speak to the house of Israel.
So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll.
And He said to me, ‘Son of man, feed your belly, and
fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.’
So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness.”
EZEKIEL 3:1-3

a) The process of revelation is twofold
i) God has already “written” what He intends His messenger to preach.
ii) The servant of the Lord is to spend time to digest what God has given.
b) Rejection of a false idea of revelation.

We must never imagine that the process of revelation is something “passive” for the messenger. The servant of the Lord is not an empty-headed person who does nothing but sit and wait for a message to deliver for the Lord. This erroneous concept of revelation must be rejected as an unworthy thought.

2. God’s Revelation to Daniel

Daniel also received many important revelations from God. (The relevant texts are to be found in Daniel 7-12). In a careful study of these significant chapters, the same observations may be made:-

a) God sent an angel to explain His revelation to Daniel (Daniel 10:4-21).
b) Daniel on his part had to spend time praying and pondering God’s word (Daniel 9:1-27)

The process of revelation always sees the servant of God vigorously engaged!
