Ephesians

Ephesians
Day
Day 75

"And raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus."

Text: Ephesians 2:6

“TOGETHER… TOGETHER…”

How rich is God’s mercy? How deep is His love? We have a glimpse of the greatness of His mercy and love in the word “together”. What does this word suggest?

1. “Raised us up together” (“suneigeiren”)

This phrase translates just one word in the Greek. This is essentially a compound word (“with” and “raise”). The focus is on the use of the preposition “with” here translated adequately as “together”).

Just as God lovingly raised up the Lord Jesus from the dead, so He tenderly raises us up from the state of our spiritual death.

2. “Made us sit together” (“sunekathisen”)

This phrase also translates one word in the Greek. This too is a compound word (“with” and “sit”). The preposition is translated consistently here as “together”.

Just as God raised Jesus and accorded to Him the honour of sitting in the heavenly places, so that same honour is extended to us.

3. “In Christ Jesus”

It seems incredible that God could have such a rich store of mercy. It seems unbelievable that God could love to this extent. Nevertheless this is true! It was all made possible because of “Christ Jesus”.

REVIEWING GOD’S GLORIOUS PLAN OF SALVATION

Paul delighted in God’s wondrous plan of salvation. In a few broad strokes he painted a beautiful picture of God’s work. Four main actions of God stood out:-

1. Making us come alive

“Even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ”.
EPHESIANS 2:5

2. Raising us up

“And raised us up together…”
EPHESIANS 2:6a

3. Seating us in the heavenly places

“And made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”
EPHESIANS 2:6b

4. Blessing us

“Who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”
EPHESIANS 1:3

A HUMBLE PRAYER TO COMPREHEND ALL THESE THOUGHTS

We can now better understand just why Paul prayed for the Ephesians to be given “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation” (Cf. Ephesians 1:17). The richness of God’s mercy and love is truly beyond ordinary human comprehension. We would need special enlightenment from the Spirit of God to fathom .
