Ephesians
Day
Day 56

"And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the Church."

Text: Ephesians 1:22

FULFILMENT OF A GREAT MESSIANIC PROPHECY

There were many wonderful and mighty Messianic prophecies in the Book of Psalms. Paul could well have this particular prophecy in mind even as he wrote this text.

“The LORD said to my Lord,
‘Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.'”
PSALM 110:1

This very same text was cited by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself in one of His disputes with the scribes (Cf. Luke 20:42-43).

SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS MESSIANIC TEXT

What is the significance of this Messianic text?

1. This great work of God was anticipated

The work of raising Jesus to sit at the right hand of God was already planned and anticipated.

2. God’s Personal involvement

God would be personally and directly involved in fulfilling this prophetic word.

3. Strong confirmation

We have strong confirmation that the seating of Christ at the right hand of God was all part of the Divine master plan

4. Things yet to be fulfilled

It is important to note that this prophecy is not yet completely fulfilled.

a) In Principle

Christ is already seated at the right hand of God.

b) The conquering of all enemies

This part is yet part of the prophetic future. God will subdue all the enemies of Christ, both human and demonic.

THE HEADSHIP OF CHRIST

We are reminded of another Messianic Psalm. This prophecy concerning Jesus the Lord will also be fulfilled one day.

“Yet I have set My King
On My holy hill of Zion.
I will declare the decree:
The LORD has said to Me,
‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.'”
PSALM 2:6-7
