Day 45

"That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him." Ephesians 1:17

Text: Ephesians 1:17

OUR NEED FOR “THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION”

The heritage of our faith in Christ is a very rich and deep one. It is so wrong to reduce Christianity to “simple faith”. Too many have been sold a “watered down” version of Christianity. At no time did Paul ever offer a condensed version of the Christian faith. In all his writings, Paul sought to encourage his readers to discover and develop a deep faith in Christ.

Paul was right to pray for the “Spirit of wisdom” to be given by the Lord. Without wisdom, it would be impossible to discern the deep things of God. In the definitive text concerning the Spirit’s role in teaching us about the deep things of God, Paul had much to say.

“But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery,
the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages…

But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.
For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world,
but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things
that have been freely given to us by God.”
1 CORINTHIANS 2:7, 10, 11-12

2. The work of revealing God’s truth

a) In God’s ordained plan this revelation must come through the ministry of the Spirit of God.
b) Only the Spirit of God can reveal the deep things of God.

3. The Spirit of God is distinguished

a) The human spirit
b) The “spirit of the world”

A NEEDED PRAYER TODAY

The prayer that Paul uttered on behalf of the Ephesian Christian is one that is still valid for the modern day Christian. There is so much “knowledge” waiting to be discovered. Let us earnestly utter these very words that Paul wrote as our personal plea to God today.
