Day 40

"God shall judge the righteous and the wicked"

Text: Ecclesiastes 3:17

GOD AS THE SUPREME JUDGE

God is the final and supreme Judge. His judgment will overrule man’s rulings.

“I said in my heart,
‘God shall judge the righteous and the wicked,
For there is a time there for every purpose
and for every work.'”
Ecclesiastes 3:17

1. “I said in my heart”

a) Solomon saw injustice.
b) This seemed to prevail in greater or lesser degrees.
c) He held his peace but, in his heart, he knew that God Himself would have the last word.

2. “God shall judge the righteous and the wicked”

a) In an imperfect world
i) The righteous may not get the justice he seeks.
ii) The wicked may seem to have the upper hand.
b) In the final analysis
i) God will judge the righteous and give him vindication.
ii) God will judge the wicked and convict him of his iniquities.

3. “For there is a time there for every purpose and for every work”

a) In God’s system, three things will prevail.
b) These are:
i) “Time”
In God’s time the righteous and the wicked would be judged.

“When I choose the proper time, I will judge uprightly.”
Psalm 75:2

This was a word that Asaph wrote in Psalm 75 as he contemplated the problem of how the wicked seemed to prevail.
ii) “Every Purpose”
God’s purpose would not be thwarted. His purpose would be fulfilled. Man’s wickedness would be judged.
iii) “Every work”
Every work that God has planned would also be fulfilled one day.
