"Remove sorrow from your heart"

Text: Ecclesiastes 11:10

THE MANY SORROWS OF LIFE

There are many things in life that bring sorrow. Some of the things are self-caused. But there are other things that are beyond our control, like diseases and death. The challenge is to make sure that these things do not control our life!

“Therefore remove sorrow from your heart,
And put away evil from your flesh,
For childhood and youth are vanity.”
Ecclesiastes 11:10

1. “Therefore remove sorrow from your heart”

a) Sorrows must be managed.

i) Sorrows will affect our emotions.

ii) But they must not control our life.

b) Removal of sorrow:

i) This does not mean removal of memory.

ii) Sorrow must not dwell in our heart for life!

2. “And put away evil from your flesh”

a) We need to learn to put away sorrow or it can have devastating effects.

b) Even more must we put away evil from our life.

i) Evil is deep-seated.

ii) It affects the heart and soul of a person.

iii) The wisest thing to do is to make sure that evil thoughts are put away
as completely and as swiftly as possible.

3. “For childhood and youth are vanity”

a) Childhood

i) It is good to enjoy childhood.

ii) But it does not last forever.

b) Youth

i) Like childhood, it is to be enjoyed.

ii) We are reminded that it does not last.

c) Vanity

i) Both childhood and youth are “vanity”.

ii) They are ephemeral.

iii) They do not last!

May wisdom prevail! Let us be encouraged to pursue wisdom!
