"As you do not know what is the way of the wind"

Text: Ecclesiastes 11:5

LIMITATIONS OF HUMAN KNOWLEDGE

Solomon had done a creditable amount of work to gather knowledge on many subjects. Yet, he knew just how limited human knowledge was!

“As you do not know what is the way of the wind,
Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child,
So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.”
Ecclesiastes 11:5

1. “As you do not know what is the way of the wind”

a) There was limited knowledge about the wind in the days of Solomon.

i) Yet there were some who said they could read signs and omens
in the wind.

ii) There were others who based their business on their knowledge of the wind.

b) Wise Implications:

i) Let no one attempt to make predictions about the wind.

ii) Nor to plan things based on the knowledge of the wind.

iii) One should not plan life’s dealings based on limited knowledge.

2. “Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child”

a) There was also limited knowledge about human biology.

b) There was little knowledge about how babies grew in the womb.

c) The same lesson must be learned.

One should not plan too many things based on limited knowledge.

3. “So you do not know the works of God who makes everything”

a) There was certainly limited knowledge about God and His works.

b) To assume knowledge would be foolish.

c) To be presumptuous could be detrimental to one’s life and well-being.

d) One must humbly seek the Lord in humble prayer for His mercy and blessing
on any undertaking!
