"When Christ who is our life appears..."

Text: Colossians 3:4

AN ESCHATOLOGICAL REALITY

The apostle Paul had a deep understanding of his faith in Christ. This included an eschatological aspect. The word “eschatological” is a reference to the Second Coming of Christ. This was a firm and real doctrine that Paul held fast in his life.

“When Christ who is our life appears,
then you also will appear with Him in glory.”

Colossians 3:4

1. Christ is central

Paul discovered that Christ’s role is central in every sense of the word!

a) Salvation
b) Strength
c) Sustenance
d) Significance

2. “When Christ who is our life”

a) He gives life.
b) He gives light.
c) He is indeed our very life!

3. When Christ appears

a) This is a reference to the Second Coming of Christ.
b) Paul anticipated His return.
c) He lived with a great sense of expectation that Christ would return.
d) A favourite word employed was “appears”.

4. “Then you also will appear with Him in glory”

a) Christ’s Second Coming has everything to do with us, His saints.
b) He will come in the fullness of His glory.
c) We will share in His glory.
d) We will thus “appear” with Him.
i) As part of His company.
ii) Sharing in His glory.
iii) Entering into the joy of the Lord in His Second Coming.
