Day 87

"Behold, a basket of summer fruit"

Text: Amos 8:1

THE FOURTH VISION

Amos was given yet another vision by the Lord. Each vision was a special message from the Lord.

“Thus the Lord GOD showed me:
Behold, a basket of summer fruit.
And He said, ‘Amos, what do you see?’
So I said, ‘A basket of summer fruit.’
Then the LORD said to me:
‘The end has come upon My people Israel;
I will not pass by them anymore.'”
Amos 8:1-2

1. “Thus the Lord GOD showed me”

a) Once again, the Lord gave a special vision to Amos; the fourth vision concerning the future of Israel.
b) This was a vision of a basket of summer fruit.

2. “And He said, ‘Amos, what do you see?'”

a) This was how God trained Amos.
b) There was a very close personal relationship between God and His servant Amos the prophet.

3. “So I said, ‘A basket of summer fruit.'”

a) The vision was clear and straightforward.
b) Thus Amos stated what was obvious.
c) But what did the vision mean?

4. “Then the Lord said to me”

a) The Lord had to reveal the meaning of the vision.
b) If God did not teach, Amos would have had a hard time trying to fathom what this vision meant.

5. “The end has come upon My people Israel”

a) A basket of summer fruit would reflect that the field had been harvested.
b) The sowing and growing seasons were over.
c) This was harvest time.
d) This was the end of the sowing and growing of the nation of Israel.

6. “I will not pass by them anymore”

a) God will not visit His people.
b) The nation would not have the Presence, the Protection and Providence of God anymore!
