"But I will send a fire upon Judah"

Text: Amos 2:5

JUDGMENT PRONOUNCED

Amos had to sadly and solemnly declare the judgment of the LORD against Judah.

“But I will send a fire upon Judah,
And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”
Amos 2:5

1. “But I will send a fire upon Judah”

a) Judah would suffer the same divine judgment.
b) A fire would be sent to chastise and punish Judah.

2. “And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem”

a) The royal residences would not be spared.
b) The grand palaces would be razed by fire.

THE PROPHECIES OF JEREMIAH

Jeremiah faithfully proclaimed that God would judge Judah. But his words fell on deaf ears!

1. God would not spare even if Moses and Samuel would intercede (Jeremiah 15:1).

2. Punishment proclaimed

Four punishments:

Jeremiah 15:2

a) Death
b) Sword
c) Famine
d) Captivity

3. Zion shall be plowed like a field (Jeremiah 26:18a).

4. Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins (Jeremiah 26:18b).

REASONS FOR THIS PUNISHMENT HIGHLIGHTED

The sins of Judah were highlighted by Jeremiah especially.

1. The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron (Jeremiah 17:1a).

2. With the point of a diamond it is engraved on the tablet of their heart (Jeremiah 17:1b).

3. Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength (Jeremiah 17:5).

4. Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD (Jeremiah 17:13).

5. If you will not heed Me… then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem (Jeremiah 17:27).
