"Concerning Israel"

Text: Amos 1:1

THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL

That God loved the nation of Israel is without a doubt. From the time of Abraham to the time of Amos, God had showered His love upon Israel.

“The words of Amos, who was among the sheepbreeders
of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel…”
Amos 1:1

1. God’s relationship with Israel clearly declared

“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God;
the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself,
a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.”
Deuteronomy 7:6

b) The nation had been chosen to be a people for the LORD.
c) God regarded Israel as “a special treasure”.

2. God’s love for the nation clearly stated

“Since you were precious in My sight,
You have been honoured,
And I have loved you…
Fear not, for I am with you…
Everyone who is called by My name,
Whom I have created for My glory;
I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
Isaiah 43:4, 5, 7

a) Israel was “precious” in God’s sight.
b) The nation had been given much honour.
c) It was dearly loved by the Lord.
d) The Presence of God was always with His people.
e) Israel bore the name of God (El… is the short form of Elohim… God).
f) God had specially created (formed and made) the nation.

3. God would always be gracious and forgiving

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions
for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.”
Isaiah 43:25

a) Inevitably, we will sin in life.
b) But there is the glorious promise of our transgressions being blotted out and not remembered!
