"For the redemption of the transgressions..."

Text: Hebrews 9:15

THE REDEMPTIVE PLAN OF GOD

God’s plan for the redemption of man is truly profound. Only One who is truly perfectly sinless could hope to bring about this redemption.

“For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer,
sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh,
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the
eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God,
cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant,
by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions
under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive
the promise of the eternal inheritance.”
Hebrews 9:13-15

1. In the old covenant

a) The blood of animals sacrificed sprinkled the unclean.
b) The unclean was then sanctified and declared “purified”.

2. In the new covenant

a) Through the blood of Christ.
b) Through the eternal Holy Spirit of God.
c) Jesus offered Himself without spot before God.

3. Consequently

a) Our conscience has been cleansed.
b) We may now speak of being able to serve the living God.
c) Jesus must ever be borne in mind as the Mediator of the new covenant.
d) All who are called to believe in the Lord Jesus will receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST

The Lord Jesus Christ had to be offered as the perfect sacrifice, before salvation can be offered.

“So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.
To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time,
apart from sin, for salvation.”
Hebrews 9:28

1. The first coming of Christ

He came to bear the sins of many.

2. The second coming of Christ

He will come to fully redeem all who truly believe in Him. May we eagerly await His second coming!
