40 Days and 40 Nights
Day
Day 29

"He awakens Me morning by morning..."

Text: Isaiah 50:4

AN IMPORTANT DISCIPLINE

It would take a great deal of discipline to have survived in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights. One of the skills that Jesus would have had to learn was to utilize the early morning hours. The afternoons can be scorching in terms of heat.

“He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.”
Isaiah 50:4

1. “He awakens Me”

a) This is a reference to the LORD God.
b) He was personally and actively involved in the equipping of His servant.
c) He would personally awaken the Messiah each morning.

2. “Morning by morning”

a) This text well describes the personal discipline of the Messiah.
b) The LORD God would speak to His Servant “morning by morning”.
c) A related text that reveals just how early Jesus would get up each day.

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight,
He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.”
Mark 1:35

i) Jesus was up before dawn.
ii) This was His daily practice.

3. Two important details associated with the term “the learned”

a) The tongue of the learned.
b) The ear of the learned.
c) Both are closely related.

4. “He awakens My ear to hear as the learned”

a) The LORD God would equip His Servant effectively.
b) He would train His ears to hear well.
c) He would acquire “the ear of the learned”.
d) He would be able to hear what the LORD God would say to Him.
e) Even amidst a busy day of challenging activities, the Messiah Servant would be able to hear what the LORD God says to Him.
f) The 40 Days and 40 nights’ sojourn in the wilderness would have sharpened the ears of the learned.
