"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God..."

Text: 2 Timothy 3:16

OUR INSPIRED SCRIPTURES

Not many believe that the Scriptures are inspired. The apostle Paul certainly did! Let us ponder what he wrote about the Scriptures!

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
2 Timothy 3:16

1. “All Scripture”

a) The Scriptures are generally divided in the following way:
i) The Law
ii) The Prophets
iii) The Writings (History, Wisdom Literature)
b) Paul’s declaration
i) They are equally inspired.
ii) They were infallibly written.
c) This would be a reference to the original writings.

2. “By inspiration of God”

a) The word “inspired”:-
i) It suggests that God breathed over the Scriptures.
ii) God superintended the writing of the Scriptures.
b) God’s involvement:-
i) God was deeply involved in the giving of the Scriptures.
ii) The writers would have to do their part in writing accurately.
iii) God ensured that the Scriptures were free from error.

3. “And is profitable”

The Scriptures are indeed profitable!

a) The Psalmists testify of the relevance of the Scriptures (Psalm 19:7-11; Psalm 119).
b) The Lord Jesus made constant reference to the Scriptures and He taught His disciples how to discover Him prophesied therein (Luke 24).
c) The apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ followed suit. With great skill and boldness they taught the church how to read the Scriptures with great personal profit.
