"Purpose..."

Text: 2 Timothy 3:10

BUT YOU HAVE CAREFULLY FOLLOWED III

Timothy must have been deeply impacted by the teachings and the life of the Apostle Paul. Thus he learned not only to admire Paul from a distance but to love and honour him as a genuine son in the faith.

b) The word in Greek is “prosthesis”.

3. Significant nuances

a) It tells us that Paul planned his life.
i) His life was not a haphazard response to changing circumstances.
ii) There was a planned sense of purpose.
b) It hints of the human will.
i) Paul had “a thesis” in his life.
ii) This affected the way his thought lived.
iii) He applied a strong sense of his will to the purpose of his life.
c) It also involved a sense of steadfast loyalty.
i) Once he understood the purpose of his life.
ii) He became strongly steadfast and loyal to fulfilling that sense of purpose.

A STRONG SENSE OF PURPOSE IN LIFE

Knowledge of the teachings of the Lord Jesus would affect our manner of life. The apostle Paul must have carefully followed the example of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

1. Jesus spoke often of being “Sent” by God.

2. He understood and embraced the Will of God as His own.

3. He was steadfastly loyal and committed to serving His Father even if it meant His death.

4. The sense of purpose in the Life of the Lord Jesus was truly remarkable.

The challenge to carefully follow the Lord Jesus and the apostle Paul ought to be given much consideration today. Living with a great sense of purpose enriches the significance of life. The full potential of life is never realised till we have a great sense of purpose of our understanding of our salvation.
