"Prepared for every good work..."

Text: 2 Timothy 2:21

THE SIGNIFICANT VESSEL FOR HONOUR

What does it take to become a significant vessel for honour? The apostle Paul had these words of advice for Timothy.

“Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter,
he will be a vessel for honour, sanctified and useful for the Master,
prepared for every good work.”
2 Timothy 2:21

We have already noted the need to be cleansed from anything and everything that could hinder a person from serving the Lord effectively. Let us now look at the other aspects highlighted:-

1. “Sanctified”

a) The first idea is that of “holiness”.

The servant of God must choose a life of holiness.

b) Another strong idea is that of being “set apart”.

The good servant of God is totally dedicated to the holy work of God.

2. “Useful for the Master”

a) The good servant recognises and loves his Master.
b) He desires nothing better than to be useful to Him.
c) He understands what it takes to be “useful” for the Master.
i) To be cleansed
ii) To be a vessel for honour
iii) To be holy and dedicated to the Lord
iv) To play whatever role the Master assigns to him

3. “Prepared for every good work”

a) He acknowledges that he needs to be “prepared”.
i) He needs to become a disciple.
ii) He needs to strengthen and deepen his faith.
iii) He needs to be corrected of his faults and sins.
iv) He needs to increase his knowledge of God and ministry.
b) He recognises that God wants to engage us in every good work.
i) The quantity of work can be staggering.
ii) However the quality of work must never be compromised.
