"The Lord knows those who are His..."

Text: 2 Timothy 2:19

TWO RAMIFICATIONS

An understanding of the significance of God’s seal involves knowledge of two closely related ramifications that are worth considering prayerfully. Let us seek to understand the text a little more deeply.

“‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and,
‘Let everyone who names the name of the Christ depart from iniquity.'”
2 Timothy 2:19

1. The first ramification:-

“The Lord knows those who are His”

a) The first ramification has to do with the Lord Himself.
b) The Lord is vitally involved in His own work.
c) He knows His people intimately.
d) He clearly distinguishes:-
i) The wheat from the tares.
ii) The sheep from the goats.
iii) The good fish from the bad fish.
e) How wonderful to know that we truly belong to the Lord.
i) We are called His “sons and daughters”.
ii) We are called “brethren”.

2. The second ramification:-

“Let everyone who names the name of the Christ depart from iniquity”

a) The second ramification has to do with us who know the Lord.
b) We are to make appropriate responses:
i) We must discern between truth and error.
ii) We must choose the company we keep.
iii) We are to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
iv) We are to forsake the world and its evil ways.

WISE ADMONITION

Timothy would be well-advised to take note of how he applied this truth to his life and ministry. With wise discernment he must take note of people he must shun!

1. False teachers must be shunned.

2. False teachings must also be shunned.
