"The solid foundation of God stands..."
Text: 2 Timothy 2:19
SO MANY CONFLICTING VIEWS
There are so many who claim that they are teaching the Word of God. It can be quite a challenge to know how to separate truth from error, how to distinguish the genuine from the imitation. This text therefore brings much comfort to the heart.
“Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands,
having this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’
and, ‘Let everyone who names
the name of Christ depart from iniquity.'”
2 Timothy 2:19
1. “Nevertheless”
a) Simple particle that indicates inference.
b) It brings much encouragement and comfort though.
c) Despite what seems a bleak scene hope is not diminished.
2. “The solid foundation of God stands”
a) The work of God is in mind here.
b) The work of God is a solid structure and has often been compared:-
i) To a house
ii) To a temple
iii) To a kingdom
iv) To a church
c) The infrastructure is sound.
i) There are strong foundations.
ii) The Lord Himself is the Builder.
iii) The foundation will always stand.
3. “Having this seal”
a) God’s work often has a distinct seal on it.
b) The Spirit of God is sometimes referred as God’s seal.
c) He is the Guarantee as well (Ephesians 1:13-14).
WE HAVE A BLESSED ASSURANCE
We may rest assured that our faith in the Lord and His word will not be in vain.
1. God’s work will stand the test of time.
2. The foundations are solid and sound.
