Day 18

"God will send them strong delusion..."

Text: 2 Thessalonians 2:11

A PROFOUND INSIGHT

In the face of the danger that the lawless one will posit what would be God’s response? The apostle Paul adds a profound insight in the following text.

“And for this reason God will send them strong delusion,
that they should believe the lie, that they all may be
condemned who did not believe the truth but had
pleasure in unrighteousness.”

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12

1. “And for this reason God will send them strong delusion”

a) God’s response is truly profound.
b) He will not send extra help.
c) He has already taken the Holy Spirit away.
d) God will send them “strong delusion”.
i) If people prefer lies to truth they will be deluded.
ii) They will believe in the “lying wonders” that will be performed.
e) The end result is that they will believe in that which is false.
f) They will believe the lie that presents itself as truth.

2. “That they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth”

a) This word of warning was noted by the apostle John (John 3:18-21).
b) This was also noted by the apostle Matthew (Matthew 7:21-23).
c) Why would people not come to the truth found in the Lord Jesus?
i) They prefer darkness (John 3:19-20).
ii) They prefer to “practise lawlessness” (Matthew 7:23).
iii) They will not profess faith in Jesus as the Son of God.

WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY PROVIDED

God is not cruel when He makes this response! Let us remember that He has already provided all that we need to defend ourselves from the wiles of Satan. Four things may be highlighted:-

1. He has given us the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour.

2. He has given us the Holy Spirit as our Guarantee and our Seal.

3. He has given us the Scriptures.

4. He has given us the Church.
