"Who opposes and exalts himself..."

Text: 2 Thessalonians 2:4

MORE ABOUT THE ANTICHRIST

The apostle Paul was wise in giving more information concerning the Man of Sin. This will enable us not to be easily deceived by false teachers.

“Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God
or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God,
showing himself that he is God.”

2 Thessalonians 2:4

1. “Who opposes”

a) He will oppose God openly.
b) He will defy God.

2. “And exalts himself above all that is called God”

a) He will exalt himself against God.
b) He will exalt himself against everyone who has faith in God.
c) He will be totally egocentric!

3. “Or that is worshipped”

a) He will attack organized religion.
b) He will attack any semblance of worship given to God.

4. “So that he sits as God”

a) He will exalt himself as God.
b) He will cause people to worship.
c) Some examples of people who want others to worship them.
i) Nebuchadnezzer (Daniel 3)
ii) Emperor worship in the heydays of Rome

5. “In the temple of God”

a) This could well be a literal temple of God.
b) In which case there must first be a re-construction of the temple of God in Jerusalem.
c) He will cause the temple to become an abomination.

6. “Showing that he is God”

a) He may well set a statue of himself in the temple of God.
b) He is out to prove that he himself is God and worth of all worship.
