"A heart trained in covetous practices"

Peter went on to expose the false teachers for what they were. They were not children of God at all!

“Having eyes full of adultery
and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls.
They have a heart trained in covetous practices,
and are accursed children.”
2 Peter 2:14

1. “Having eyes full of adultery”

a) They were adulterous.

b) Their eyes were wrongly employed.

2. “And that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls”

a) They are drawn to sin.

b) They are almost restless in their inclination towards sin.

3. “Enticing unstable souls”

a) They lure people into sin.

b) The victims are often people who are weak and unstable.

4. “They have a heart trained in covetous practice”

a) Their hearts had been “trained”

i) The word “train” is interesting.

ii) The word “gymnastic” comes from this word.

iii) A gymnast trains very hard in order to succeed.

iv) The false teacher has been trained for the wrong things.

b) Their focus was in coveting

i) They were practised in coveting things.

ii) They would go to great lengths to get what they covet.

5. “And are accursed children”

a) These are not children of God.

b) They are indeed “accursed”.

c) This word carries an imprecatory idea.
