"Especially those who walk according to the flesh"

Text: 2 Peter 2:10

FURTHER DESCRIPTION OF THE FALSE TEACHERS

The Apostle Peter warned of false teachers (2 Peter 2:1-3). He went on to describe the false teachers and the things they did.

“And especially those who walk according to the flesh
in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority.
They are presumptuous, self-willed.
They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries.”
2 Peter 2:10

1. “And especially those who walk according to the flesh”

a) These false teachers were certainly not following the Lord Jesus Christ.

b) They were walking according to the way of the flesh.

2. Two aspects were highlighted:

a) “In the lust of uncleanness”

i) The word “uncleanness” means “corruption”.

ii) These followed corruption with desire (lust).

b) “Despise authority”

i) Human authority.

ii) Authority in the spiritual realm.

3. Other features about the false teachers

a) “They are presumptuous”

i) This word suggests that they are “brash” and “brazen”.

ii) They are filled with thoughts about themselves.

b) “Self-willed”

i) Their will is not that of the Lord.

ii) They are not led by God but by their own self-determination.

c) “They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries”

i) They have no sense of regard for “dignitaries”.

ii) This word speaks of beings which have “glory”.

iii) This could be a reference to fallen angels, for example, Satan.
