Day 26

"The Lord knows how to deliver the godly"

Text: 2 Peter 2:9

GOD KNOWS HOW TO DELIVER

This was a message that Peter strongly emphasised. Though we may live in a wicked world, we must hold fast to this truth.

“Then the Lord knows how to deliver
the godly out of temptations
and to reserve the unjust under punishment
for the day of judgment.”
2 Peter 2:9

1. “Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations”

a) The word “then” was added by the NKJV translators to give greater clarity.

b) The focus is “the Lord knows”.

i) God’s knowledge is deep and profound.

ii) We may trust in the Lord completely, that He has full and complete knowledge.

c) “To deliver the godly out of temptations”

i) The word “deliver” was used to describe how God rescued Lot.

ii) The same word is used to describe how God will deliver the godly.

iii) The word temptation may also include the concept of “testing”.

2. “And to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment”

a) The word “reserve” means “to keep”.

i) The Lord is in absolute control.

ii) The unjust may seem to have the upper hand.

iii) But the Lord is just “reserving them”.

b) “Under punishment for the day of judgment”

i) God will punish the unjust (the unrighteous).

ii) They will be punished in due time.

iii) The Lord reserves the right to judge and to punish the unrepentant.
