"Grow in the grace"

Text: 2 Peter 3:18

ONE LAST REMINDER

The Apostle Peter began his Second Epistle on a word of encouragement to grow in faith. He ended his epistle on the same note! Growth in faith is of utmost importance.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge
of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18

1. Growth

a) This is vital.

b) All living things must grow.

c) This applies to the spiritual realm.

d) There must be growth!

2. Two aspects of growth were highlighted

a) “Grace”

i) Our salvation is based on grace.

ii) Our sanctification is directly tied to grace too.

iii) Our service for the Lord depends on how the grace of God is applied.

b) “Knowledge”

There is much to learn about the Lord Jesus Christ.

i) His life.

ii) His teachings.

iii) The salvation He offers.

iv) The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

v) The work that He has entrusted to the Church.

vi) The promises that He has given to help us grow well.

vii) The Second Coming of Christ.

3. It is growth that would stand us in good stead

a) We would not need to fear false teachers and false doctrines.

b) We would be able to be fruitful in our life and ministry.

c) We would be able to remain steadfast till the Second Coming of Christ.

4. “To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

a) Giving glory to the Lord.

i) This is only right.

ii) Glory belongs to the Lord.

b) “Both now and forever”

i) Glory should be attributed to the Lord always.

ii) Whether in the present moment or for eternity.

5. “Amen”

a) With this simple word, Peter concluded his Second Epistle.

b) This word was one of positive affirmation of all that he had written!
