"The truth which abides with us..."
Text: 2 John 2
TRUTH AND LOVE
The Apostle John linked truth and love together. Both concepts are wonderfully related. This is obvious from the text he wrote.
“Because of the truth which abides in us
and will be with us forever.”
2 John 2
1. “Because of”
a) The word “because” links the two verses together.
b) The love that John and others bore for “the elect lady” is linked by truth.
2. “The truth which abides in us”
a) John’s understanding of truth not just a body of knowledge.
b) His reference to truth was that it abides within the believer.
i) Truth was first to be understood.
ii) It is to be believed in.
iii) It was meant to be assimilated.
iv) It was ever meant to abide in the heart of the believer.
v) When it does, then the love of Christ would be expressed beautifully.
3. “And will be with us forever”
a) The truth that John wrote of has an eternal nature.
b) The truth that Jesus expounded was not just meant for the people in the first century.
c) It would never be outdated.
d) The truth that Jesus expounded was meant to be with His disciples forever.
