Day 90

"You are the temple of the living God."

Text: 2 Corinthians 6:16

A TEMPLE OF GOD

The idea of a temple suggests “sacredness”. The doctrine of being a temple of God is often not consciously applied by many.

“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?
For you are the temple of the living God.
As God has said:
‘I will dwell in them and walk among them.
I will be their God, and they shall be My people.'”
2 Corinthians 6:16

1. “And what agreement has the temple of God with idols”

a) This is also a rhetorical question.
b) It is in the same vein as 2 Corinthians 6:14-15.

2. Series of rhetorical questions

a) These were put together for emphasis and impact.
b) The answer is so obvious, none is offered.
i) What fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
ii) What communion has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
iii) What accord has Christ with Belial? 2 Corinthians 6:15
iv) What agreement has the temple of God with idols? 2 Corinthians 6:15

3. You are the temple of God

a) This was a truth that Paul sought to highlight.
b) This is a profound concept that ought to be kept in mind closely.

4. The citation in 2 Corinthians 6:16

a) This is taken from Exodus 29:45.
b) The context is that of the Tabernacle of God.
c) God made a solemn promise to His people.
i) He will dwell among them.
ii) His Presence will be in the Tabernacle, in the Holy of Holies.
iii) He will also walk among them.
iv) He will be their God.
v) The believers will be His people.

5. What does God expect from His People?

He desires them to have a consciousness that they are “the temple of God!” They are to practise being holy. They cannot compromise their faith and their relationship with God as His holy people!
