2 Corinthians

2 Corinthians
Day
Day 55

"The life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body."

Text: 2 Corinthians 4:10

A PROFOUND TEACHING

Paul taught many profound doctrines. The following teaching is an amazing one!

“Always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus,
that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.”
2 Corinthians 4:10

1. “We have this treasure in earthen vessels” 2 Corinthians 4:7

a) This treasure certainly involves the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) This is profoundly expressed in this text.

2. “Always carrying about in the body”

a) Paul describes this vividly.
b) Three thoughts stand out:
i) We are “carrying about”.
ii) We are “always” doing this.
iii) In (our) body!

3. What are we carrying?

a) “The dying of the Lord Jesus”
i) This is a reference to our identification with Christ.
ii) Are we conscious of “the dying of the Lord Jesus?”
b) “The life of Jesus”
i) This is an important match-up.
ii) This is a reference to the resurrected-life of the Lord Jesus.

4. “Also may be manifested in our body”

a) Our faith in the Lord Jesus was not meant to be an academic thing.
b) A good and genuine faith in Christ must see us consciously manifesting the life of Jesus in our body.
c) Our mortal flesh may indeed be described as “earthen vessels”.
d) Nevertheless, we may live significantly for the Lord.
e) Let us recall what Paul wrote to the Galatians to express how he lived.

“I have been crucified with Christ;
it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20
