"Yet not crushed..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 4:8

THE POWER OF GOD EVIDENCED

The power of God was clearly evidenced in Paul’s life. There were many ministry challenges but amidst all the difficulties, the power of God enabled him to rise above the circumstances of his life.

“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed;
we are perplexed, but not in despair;
persecuted, but not forsaken;
struck down, but not destroyed.”
2 Corinthians 4:8-9

1. Four adverse circumstances were described

a) Being hard-pressed
b) Feeling perplexed
c) Being persecuted
d) Feeling cast down

2. These tough circumstances could have caused

a) Discouragement
b) Despair

3. But with faith in the Lord and His power the following powerful attitudes were adopted.

a) Not crushed
i) A tremendous fighting spirit is to be noted.
ii) “Down but not out!”
b) Not in despair
i) One does not need to feel helpless or hopeless.
ii) One does not need to give in to feelings of despair.
iii) One can arise victorious in the strife.
c) Not forsaken
i) Faith still holds fast to God.
ii) He has not forsaken His people.
iii) His presence brings much comfort and strength.
d) Not destroyed
i) A powerful spirit of faith is evidenced.
ii) The power of God enables one to feel invincible.
iii) Our faith in God truly emboldens and empowers.
