"An epistle of Christ..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 3:3

A DEEPLY STIRRING WORD

Paul wrote a very stirring word as he sought to teach deep lessons of faith to the Corinthians!

“Clearly you are an epistle of Christ,
ministered by us, written not with ink
but by the Spirit of the living God,
not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh,
that is, of the heart.”
2 Corinthians 3:3

1. “Clearly”

a) This was clear to Paul.
b) “Manifestly”- is the meaning of the word “clearly”

2. “You are an epistle of Christ”

a) Nobody has ever expressed such a thought.
b) It is a profoundly stirring idea!
c) Believers are like “living epistles of Christ”.
d) They should manifest the workmanship of God.

3. The Divine Writer

a) The Holy Spirit of the living God.
b) He writes:
i) With power to change lives.
ii) To make an indelible impression.
iii) The results are unmistakably manifest and clear.

4. The instrument the Spirit of God employed

a) Paul and his team.
b) True and faithful servants of God may be used as instruments of writing.

5. The material utilised

a) Not on tablets of stone
i) Veiled reference to the stone tablets that God gave to Moses.
ii) These were of great historical significance.
b) The human heart
i) Quite different from stones.
ii) There is even greater significance when God writes on the human heart.
