"Given us the Spirit... as a guarantee."

Text: 2 Corinthians 1:22

THE WORK OF GOD

One of the most fascinating things to study in the Scriptures is the way God works. Paul highlighted a special work of God in this text.

“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and
has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and
given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”
2 Corinthians 1:21-22

1. The amazing work of God

a) “He who establishes us with you in Christ”

i) This is an amazing work indeed.

ii) The work of establishing is essential.

iii) God confirms His work by establishing it.

b) “And has anointed us”

i) This takes place at our conversion.

ii) The Spirit of God is given to us.

iii) This anointing confirms our salvation in and through Christ Jesus.

c) “Who also has sealed us”

i) Seals were used in the first century as a guarantee.

ii) A seal is a guarantee of the content of a package.

iii) It is also a seal to establish ownership.

d) “And given us the Spirit in our hearts”

i) This is none other than the Holy Spirit Himself.

ii) He lives in our hearts.

iii) He is our Seal that we belong to God.

iv) He is our Guarantee that we are truly God’s.

e) “As a guarantee”

i) This is God’s solemn pledge to all believers.

ii) He has given us many precious promises.

iii) All of them are Yes and Amen.

iv) We may fully believe with all our heart that the Spirit of God is indeed our Seal and our Guarantee of our salvation in Christ Jesus the Lord!
