"The Son of God, Jesus Christ..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 1:19

THE GREATEST EXAMPLE EVER

The greatest example of life and ministry to the Apostle Paul was the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

“For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached
among you by us- by me, Silvanus, and Timothy-
was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes.”
2 Corinthians 1:19

1. “The Son of God, Jesus Christ”

a) Paul formally used the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) This title helps us to understand how the Apostles regarded the Lord.
i) Jesus of Nazareth (that would be His personal name).
ii) He was indeed declared “The Son of God” (Psalm 2:7; Mark 1:11) by God the Father Himself.
iii) He was the Christ (The Messiah) [Matthew 16:16-17].

2. “Who was preached among you”

a) The message preached to the Corinthians (and everywhere else) was the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) This is the central message of the Scriptures!
i) The Old Testament contained many prophecies of His coming.
ii) The New Testament explained and confirmed that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God.

3. Names mentioned

a) Paul preached Christ Jesus as the Lord and the Son of God.
b) So did Silvanus (sometimes called “Silas.” He was the faithful fellow-worker of Paul after Barnabas departed from him (Acts 15:40). Silas was called a prophet (Acts 15:32).
c) Timothy was also mentioned as part of this team of three (Acts 16:1-3).

4. “But in Him was Yes”

a) Paul cited the Lord Jesus Christ as his Example.
b) The word of the Lord Jesus was “Yes”.
c) Meaning:
i) His word was faithful.
ii) His word may be fully believed in.
iii) His word was trustworthy.

5. Thus, the Lord Jesus Christ was able to say with full authority

a) “But I say to you…” Matthew 5:22, 28, 32, 34 etc
b) “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” Matthew 24:35
