"Which He will manifest in His own time..."

Text: 1 Timothy 6:15

THE RETURN OF THE LORD JESUS

To the apostle Paul the return of the Lord Jesus Christ was a glorious event. This was a belief that was held widely and strongly by all the apostles.

“Which He will manifest in His own time, He who is
the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light,
whom no man has seen or can see,
to whom be honour and everlasting power. Amen.”
1 Timothy 6:15-16

A WONDROUS DOXOLOGY

The apostle breaks into a spontaneous doxology as he thought about the return of the Lord Jesus Christ!

1. “Which He will manifest in His own time”

a) Paul was not about to enter into another discussion about when Christ will return.
b) He will come when He chooses to return.
c) He will manifest Himself when it is time for Him to return.

2. Doxological praise offered

a) This was spontaneous.
b) This reflects the regard that the apostle Paul had for the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. The glorious titles of Christ the Lord

a) He is the blessed Potentate (The word “potentate” means “ruler, sovereign”).
b) He is the King of kings.
c) He is also the Lord of lords.

4. The eternal attributes of Christ the Lord

a) He alone has immortality.
i) This does not exclude the Father nor the Holy Spirit.
ii) It is not intended to be exclusive.
iii) It is Paul’s way of appreciating and extoling Jesus as Divine.
b) Dwelling in unapproachable light which no man has seen or can see.
This is a reference to heaven itself!

5. “To whom be honour and everlasting power. Amen”

Paul offers adoration and worship as a fitting response. He strongly affirms (“Amen”) all that he had written in humble adoration of the Lord Jesus Christ! He had a great and lofty regard for the Lord!
