"Who gave Himself a ransom for all..."

Text: 1 Timothy 2:6

A GLORIOUS SAVIOUR

In the apostle Paul’s presentation of Christian theism, the truth of Christ giving His life for mankind is arguably the most striking feature.

“Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

1 Timothy 2:6

1. “Who gave Himself a ransom for all”

a) This is a truly unique doctrine.
b) It is a fundamental truth of Christianity.

2. The doctrine of the “ransom” of Christ

This doctrine is sometimes misunderstood. It would be important to look at this teaching in some depth.

a) The plight of man
i) Man is a slave to sin and Satan.
ii) He cannot redeem himself.
b) The Person of Christ
i) He takes pity on man.
ii) He offers Himself as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice and wrath of God.
iii) He offers Himself as a ransom to free man from his plight of being a slave.
c) The Power of His ransom
i) His perfect life is offered as a sacrifice for all mankind.
ii) God accepts Christ’s sacrifice.
iii) Man is no longer a slave to sin and Satan when he puts his faith in Christ.

3. “To be testified in due time”

Could this unique doctrine be true? Paul declared that the truth of this teaching will be testified of in due time. Those who have placed their faith in Christ and have experienced liberty in Christ will testify of this powerful truth!

a) Paul was one of those who believed in the ransom that Christ paid.
b) He was freed from the power of sin that plagued him.
i) He was once filled with venomous hate.
ii) He was redeemed and transformed by Christ.
c) He bore testimony of the reality and power of Christ and His atonement.
