"Casting all your care upon Him"

Text: 1 Peter 5:7

THE PRACTICE OF HUMILITY

Tied closely to the principle of submission is the virtue of humility. This is a quality that deserves much attention.

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time,
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:6-7

1. “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God”

a) Humbling self before God:
i) This is right.
ii) This should be logical to us.
b) The greatness of God:
i) He is mighty.
ii) He is the Lord.
c) The puny nature of man:
i) We must be reminded of our puny nature (Psalm 8).
ii) How can we remain proud before God?

2. “That He may exalt you in due time”

a) God knows whether we are truly humble or pretending.
b) God will exalt the truly humble in due time.
i) Joseph was humble before he became the chief minister of Egypt.
ii) Daniel was humble before God exalted him to a high position in the reign of the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar.
c) God has His own will and time schedule.
i) Our part is to practise humility.
ii) And if it is in God’s will, He will exalt the humble in due time.

3. “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you”

a) The casting of all our cares upon God was taught (Psalm 55:22).
b) This is wise for the burdens of life can be very heavy.
c) God truly cares for us and is consistent to:
i) His nature (Exodus 34:6-7).
ii) His being our Father in heaven (Matthew 6:25-34).
