"He who has the Son has life..."
Text: 1 John 5:12
JESUS THE SON OF GOD
When the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth and ministered in Israel, many did not fully understand how He was the Son of God. Many rejected His message of eternal life. They could not comprehend what He meant when He spoke about being the eternal Son of God! Yet, this truth is a fundamental one.
“He who has the Son has life; he who
does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
1 John 5:12
1. “He who has the Son”
a) What does this mean?
b) The following thoughts must be considered: –
i) The individual must have knowledge of Jesus as the Son of God.
ii) He must believe that Jesus was sent by His Father.
iii) He must receive Jesus as his personal Saviour.
iv) He must demonstrate this faith in Jesus by following Him as His disciple.
v) He must have the Lord Jesus in his heart.
2. “Has life”
a) Jesus will give to every genuine believer “life”.
b) The following features may be highlighted: –
i) He has the promise of eternal life.
ii) He will have a life that is fruitful.
iii) He will experience an abundant life.
iv) Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
3. “He who does not have the Son of God does not have life”
a) This statement is conversely true.
b) Only in the Son of God is there the hope and promise of eternal life.
A GLORIOUS PROMISE RECALLED
Let us recall a precious promise the Lord Jesus Christ declared.
“But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.
But the water that I shall give him will become in him
a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
John 4:14
Let us exult in this wonderful promise of everlasting life. May we never lose this sense of joy and wonder that we have in Christ! Let us ever share this glorious message of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ!
