"God has given us eternal life..."
Text: 1 John 5:11
A WONDERFULLY CHEERFUL TESTIMONY
How does a believer feel deep inside him? The Apostle John has this wonderfully cheerful truth to share.
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in His Son.”
1 John 5:11
1. Testimonies felt within
a) Many believers would be happy to share what they feel deep within.
b) Different people would testify of a variety of things.
c) Some common ones include the following: –
i) The joy of the Holy Spirit.
ii) A strong sense of hope of the resurrection.
iii) Peace within the heart amidst deep trials of life.
2. “And this is the testimony”
a) John offered this particular perspective.
b) This is a testimony that many genuine believers would agree with totally.
3. “That God has given us eternal life”
a) This sense of assurance comes from God Himself.
b) There is a deep sense of assurance that we have eternal life.
i) We may not be able to prove this to people’s satisfaction.
ii) But there is no mistaking this sense of conviction and assurance.
4. “And this life is in His Son”
a) This eternal life we speak about is centred in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) His relationship with God is His “eternal Sonship”.
A GLORIOUS PROMISE
Let us recall a wonderful statement the Lord Jesus Christ declared.
“And this is the will of Him who sent Me,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him
may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 6:40
