NO FEAR OF JUDGMENT

How wonderful it is to have no fear on the day of judgment! There are two parts in 1 John 4:17 that we need to take note of! The first part has to do with knowing the love of God in our life. The second part is to be found in the following statement.

“As He is, so are we in this world.”
1 John 4:17

1. Both parts are to be given due consideration

a) The love of God evidenced in the love Jesus displayed to His followers.
b) The life of Christ evidenced in our life.

2. “As He is”

a) This is a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) The phrase “As He is” is deeply profound: –
Ten things may be highlighted easily: –
i) It is a reference to the Person that Jesus evidenced when He was on earth.
ii) He was a faithful Servant of the Lord.
iii) He was filled with the Spirit of God.
iv) He had a great sense of mission.
v) He lived a life of perfect righteousness.
vi) He was full of grace and truth.
vii) He had a great heart of compassion.
viii) He had a wonderful heart of love for all.
ix) He was fully obedient to His Father’s will.
x) He was a wonderful High Priest who never failed to pray for His own.

3. “So are we in this world”

We are deeply challenged to emulate the life of the Lord Jesus Christ!

If we have the love of God in us and we live out our faith in Christ, we need never fear the day of judgment!

a) Knowledge of the love of God by itself is insufficient.
b) Knowledge must lead to faith in the Lord Jesus.
c) Faith in turn challenges us to follow the footsteps of the Lord.
d) We cultivate Christian virtues which reflect the life and character of our Saviour.
e) We display His love in a world of much hatred and animosity.
