"Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:19

THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is a very profound thing. There are ramifications that must be given due consideration.

“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body,
but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
For you were bought at a price;
therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:18-20

1. “Sin”

a) Every sin is bad; but sins may not be against the body.
b) But the sin of sexual immorality has extra consequences.
c) It is a sin against the body itself.

2. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit

a) The Holy Spirit dwells within the believer.
b) He is both the Seal and the Guarantee that we are the Lord’s.
c) The body is not just physical; it is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

3. “You are not your own”

a) We often think, mistakenly, that our body is our own.
b) Paul reminds us that we are not our own at all.

4. “Bought at a price”

a) The price was an extremely high one.
b) The life-blood of the Lord Jesus Christ was shed for us.
c) Thus, we must learn how to value this union with Christ.

5. “Therefore glorify God”

Two aspects were highlighted:

a) In the body.
b) In the spirit.
c) We cannot separate the two aspects!

6. “Which are God’s”

This was a solemn closing statement. We belong to the Lord, body and spirit! We are not our own!
