"Do you not know that we shall judge angels?"

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:3

A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE

What would the future be like? Paul gave us a glimpse of the future. This would be possible only through divine revelation.

“Do you not know that we shall judge angels?
How much more, things that pertain to this life?
If then you have judgments concerning things pertaining to this life,
do you appoint those who are least esteemed by the church to judge?”
1 Corinthians 6:3-4

1. “Do you not know that we shall judge angels?”

a) This would be a reference to a time after the Lord Jesus has returned.
b) The angels
i) This would be a reference to fallen angels.
ii) The book of Revelation speaks of angels who were cast out of heaven (Revelation 12).

2. “How much more, things that pertain to this life?”

Yes!
b) There would have been many occasions when problems had been resolved by the church.

4. “Do you appoint”

a) This is a reference to the local secular judges.
b) The moment they bring their problems to the civil law court, they would have “appointed” them to decide matters.

a) The church belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) Its doctrines are not understood by secular judges.
c) Thus, they are “least esteemed” by the church.
d) They would not be able to decide on matters which require spiritual judgment.
e) Why had the Corinthians brought their disputes to the secular law courts to decide for them?
