"Until the Lord comes..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 4:5

SOUND APOSTOLIC ADVICE

Good judgment in life is of great importance. However, being judgmental is quite another thing!

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes,
who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness
and reveal the counsels of the hearts.
Then each one’s praise will come from God.”
1 Corinthians 4:5

1. “Therefore judge nothing before the time”

a) This is sound advice indeed.
b) Sometimes there is the problem of judging prematurely.

2. “Until the Lord comes”

a) One day the Lord Jesus Christ will return.
b) He will be the final Judge of all things.

3. How would the Lord judge?

a) He will bring everything into the light.
b) There are often “hidden things” that are not revealed.
c) But the Lord would bring to light all hidden things of darkness:
i) Hidden agenda
ii) Personal motives
iii) Secret thoughts and ideas
d) And reveal the counsels of the hearts.
i) Undisclosed thoughts
ii) Dark thoughts
iii) Even wicked inclinations
e) On the other hand, there could be
i) Good sentiments.
ii) Good intentions.
iii) But these had not been disclosed.

4. Then each man’s praise will come from God

If there are things that are truly praiseworthy, these would be honoured by the Lord! This is not to praise self, or seek man’s praise! The Lord Himself would honour and praise those who have been good and upright in life and ministry!
