"He who is spiritual..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 2:15

THE SPIRITUAL MAN

The person who cultivates his spirit may indeed be called “the spiritual man”. Paul describes the man in this text.

“But he who is spiritual judges all things,
yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.”
1 Corinthians 2:15

THE TEACHING OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

1. “Judge not, that you be not judged” (Matthew 7:1)

a) This teaching has often been:
i) Misunderstood
ii) Misapplied
b) Some use this text to mean:
i) That we cannot use our critical faculties at all.
ii) Even if there is obvious sin, one is not allowed to make a judgment call.

2. “He who is spiritual judges all things”

a) Paul offers a correct perspective of the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) Can a person judge?
His answer is a definite “Yes!”
c) Who may judge?
He who is spiritual!
d) What may he judge?
He may judge “all things”.

3. “Yet he himself is rightly judged by no one”

a) The spiritual man may be
i) A prophet.
ii) An Apostle.
iii) A man to whom God reveals spiritual truths.
iv) This person may “judge all things” based on the truths God has given him.
b) “Rightly judged by no one”
i) The carnal or natural man is however not able to judge the spiritual man.
ii) It takes spiritual discernment to make right judgments.
